The Horses
| |
Some of the twenty five horses in
the yard include:
AMBOBO
(King Mambo – Bold Bold)
Ran in the Stayers (World Hurdle) at
Cheltenham before coming to the
yard. Ran in Punchestown but the
ground was too quick for him. Should
race in February/March over fences.
Hope he will make a decent chaser if
he takes to fences/
CHEMIN D’OR
(Pennekamp – Near The End)
Second at the Galway Races 2006and
recently ran respectably in
Leopardstown. Expect better things
from him in the Spring when he gets
his ground. May run chases later in
the year.
CUNNINGHAM’S FOLLY
(Victory Note – Prestissimo)
Won three races in 2006 in Kilbeggan.
Loves good ground and having a break
until ground improves. Will probably
race again this year in Kilbeggan –
a real Summer horse.
CLEARWATERDREAMER
(City Honours – Rugged Heart)
Also a Summer horse but also ran
well to win on soft ground in
Punchestown last October. This horse
and Cunningham’s Folly will run
Spring, Summer and possibly into the
Autumn.
FINALORDERS
(Oscar – That’s the Spirit)
He is now an eight year old. He won
his first point to point and was
third in two bumpers. He was
unfortunate to be beaten a head in a
maiden hurdle in Punchestown
recently. Looks like he could be a
good chaser. His future probably
lies over fences but he will stay
over hurdles for the time being.
MANSEFIELD
(Un Desperado – Strong Willed)
Relatively recent addition to the
yard. Has had a number of placed
runs over hurdles but has had leg
trouble. Will probably start over
hurdles.
MORE LIKE IT
(Windsor Castle – Ms Brooks)
Won twice over hurdles and will run
again over hurdles before going
chasing. He is half brother to
Anxious Moments.
NICKNAME
(Lost Time – Newness)
My first Grade 1 winner;
Leopardstown December 2006. He is a
really soft ground horse so may be
unsuitable for Cheltenham but is
likely to run in various races here
in Ireland before that. He has
already won the best part of €90,000
this season so won’t be risked on
ground that doesn’t suit him. He was
a very good horse in France having
won two Grade 1’s, a Grade 2 and
four Grade 3’s before he came to me
in Kildare. He is only eight so
hopefully he has many more successes
in front of him.
NUMBERSIXVALVERDE
(Broken Hearted – Queens Tricks)
A dream horse. He loves a real test
and the softer the ground the more
it suits him. Having won the
Thyestes, we decided to aim him at
the Irish National and everything
worked out according to plan. We ran
him over hurdles last year as
preparation races for Aintree and I
was happy for him to take his chance
as I felt the four mile trip would
suit him. Everything went according
to plan and beyond and Niall
(Slippers) did a great job as pilot.
It was a dream come true for me and
the yard and hopefully he will try
it again this year, but anything he
does from here out will be a bonus.
I was delighted with his first run
in eight months at Leopardstown over
Christmas. I had quite a bit of work
done with him beforehand as I don’t
like to run horses on heavy ground
unless they are fit – they don’t
come on for the run unless they are
fit.
REKAAB
(In the Wings – Za Aamah)
Bought him last year and am very
happy with him. We will start him
off when we get some good ground in
the Spring. He was second in the
Blandford Stakes and was third in a
Guinness Trial at Leopardstown. He
was a classy horse on the flat so
hopefully he will make his mark over
hurdles – we may mix him on both for
a while. He finished with a rating
of 105 on the flat last year and was
beaten only by six lengths by Dylan
Thomas in a Derby Trial.
SILENT WIND
(Monsun – Strokida)
Bought him in Germany where he had
had three wins on the flat. He was
second to one of JP McManus’s horses
at Punchestown. Had a bout of colic
but has recovered well and shouldbe
ready to run in the next two months.
UISBOSS
(Muroto – Helm’s Air)
Nice horse and unlucky not to win
his Point to Point last Spring. As
soon as the ground improves he will
go back and try to win his Point to
Point, hopefully after that he will
run on the track.
